To Wii or not to Wii, that is the question?

So I have been considering getting a Wii for Gerriss for his Bday for a while now. I really dislike video games because they are very addicting and take away from precious family time that you could be doing more strengthening things. Although, my other argument is that it would be a great and fun thing to do on relaxing nights when we don't have any other plans. It also would be great for our Sunday School parties as well. I am torn and need some input. I would like some pros and cons of Wii owners and Wii non-owners. I want to make a very informed purchase when or if I do get him one. Please HELP!

We gave our kids a Wii for Christmas. I am like you... totally dislike video games taking away from precious family time. Tyler knows to play his XBOX 360 when we are all tucked in to bed. The Wii was highly recommended by my kids pediatrician. (and many other Wii owners of course) He loves how inter-active it is. Since we have only been Wii owners for only a few days... so far I think it brings the family together wonderfully! The kids have played great together with cousins, sisters, Daddy, etc. I highly recommend it as long as you play TOGETHER!

We use our wii as a family. :) I can only think of one game we have that isn't a 2 player game.

Most of the games we own also involve physical activity. Only a handful are sit on the couch and do nothing games.

We have a blast playing the wii WITH our kids. And when they go to bed, Brian and I play several games together.

During the summer we still enjoyed going on family bike rides and walks - the wii hasn't taken over our lives. We love it! LOVE IT! And I love the new wii fit we got!

I SOOOOO want a Wii... Ryan doesn't for the same reason you are doubting. I think you will be Wii addicted for a month or so... then go back to enjoying other things. I totally want the Wii Fit, though. I am sure I won't get either... but who knows.. maybe I will be sneaky and get what I what for Ryan's b-day. That would be so cruel!

The Wii is fun. If you do get one, you should rent games instead of buy them because you probably won't play them over and over. At least that is how we are. It's really fun because it's great for all ages! We never really got addicted to ours.

We love our Wii and have found that we actually play it more with others than just one-on-one. It is not really a gaming system for the serious gamers, it is more of a family system. I have to admit our favorite thing is rock band! It is so fun and it really is a family game. I like it because you aren't really competing against each other so much as competing together so it inspires team spirit instead of individual competition. If you want to come try our out just let me know, we are always open for a game night.

Video games are what you make them. Chad loves them, but I know that if I want to spend time together he will turn it off just to do that. It's definitely the individual that makes them addicting. In regards to the Wii, most of the games are actually MORE fun if you play with people. One of our favorite things to do is have Wii parties. And I'm sorry, there really isn't much to do in the winter time anyway so why not spend it inside with you family having a good time.
